Great week it was. For the fact that there was so much pressure and no lunch at all. Its an advantage experiencing such at the work place at times, because one tends to learn more and faster.
*went to site for measuring existing buildings and made/built sketchup models of the buildings.
*built models of  double storey houses at Someset
*did boundary wall deatail drawings of the Blue downs development
*...
And it was a hell of a hectic week.

@ Month 3 things are still flowing smooth

Its been a month and a half since I have posted... Whatsupbeautiful people!!!
A special/humbled greeting to any lecturer reading this. Yes, Im still well behave.

The last month and half  has been really busy at the office. My collegues and I went for site visits plenty of times, to measure up and take photographs of new projects we are to work on. Did 3D models on sketchup for Boschendal Estate existing buldings, Melkstroom and Cradock. It was quite a challenge and fun at the same time. however, we also did drainage calculations of the all the houses of the Bluedowns Nuwe Begin development project, went for a couple of interesting presentations of companies introducing the interesting Architectural products to the firm.

To those that read my previous post, I got a bit carried away and promises to show images of the work on my next post. Unfortunately due to technical reasons, I could not upload files on my Blog. As soon as they are resolved, I will then upload my work.

Pay Day Week (PDW)

Everybody was all smiles this week. Its probably because they got payed... Oh, not forgetting myself too... First paysleep (Im going to have to treasure this one) ;). It couldnt have been a better week than payday week .
We can be all excited for the money in the bank but the effort we put in to earn it can be an other storey. Ask an architect and you will know.
My first month at Dennis Moss Partnership has been one of the most exciting and challenging experiences I've ever had to face. I got used to working in a team of people with different Attitudes ,mentality, characteristics and of various races. I got a chance that I have always wished for, to work on real projects in an Architectural studio. However I am still finding my place in this type of working environment.
Putting in mind a couple of my friends and fellow classmates that have not yet received internship brings about empathy to my system. Hang in there guys, you had your plans but the man above is doing it his way, something better is coming ur way. Oppotunities are to be seized, and that is what I am striving to do. I appreciate all of those Architectural Firms that didnt hire me, I cant imagine them being any better than the company I work for now.
This week we have been busy with the Melkstroom Master plane, we are assisting Ian (Architectural technologist) draw it on Autocad and export it to make models of it on sketchup. I have been indoors all week, no site visites or client meetings but stiil there is a lot that I have done even my eyes hurt bcause of sketchup and AutoCad.

Login next time for a preview of more work I have done in the office.(with Images included)

Week 3 at work

This week was my first week working 5 full working days in the office. Monday we visited a site of a project tht has been recently proposed to the company and the site is at Kayamnandi, so we were invited to the site by our supevisor to take pictures and measurements of the existing buildings that are to be renovated. And the existing plan had to be edited since there were some changes that occured over the years (renovation and removal of walls) which means the plan was not up to date, hovever there are also some new ideas tht were to be put on plan.
On Tuesday iI had to edit the autocad darwing of the site and continue wth my sketchup exercise.
We also visited the Blue Dawns New Begining Project, a project that the company is currently busy wth and has been taking place for the last 3 years. A colour selection choice was to be made , as in which colours are going to be used in what type of houses. We learnt a lot from the site visit since we were also given an oppotunity to ask questions and our supervisor also explained the construction process and why certain things are done.
Its was a bit of a busy week because on thursday we were also invited to a meeting/presentation at the Kayelitsha Municipality. Our supervisor was discussing a proposal he had made to the municipality of development housing in the area. So he was going to fully satisfy them and give them an idea of the changes and ideas the other architects have changed .
Friday... The wooozah  weekend day also went well, we started AutoCad Drawings of the BleDawns project.
Dennis Moss Partneship is the Best...

Friday, 2 March 2012

Welcome to my blog.
On the 1st March 2012 was my first day working at Dennis Moss Partnership. the exciting part if it is that one of my collegues is my class mate from first year and we are getting along well, however the stuff is very friendly too.
So during day one at work, our superior gave us an exercise to test our potential and ideas. We had to come up with ideas on how to renovate an existing old building in Kayamnandi (small township near Stellenbosch), it was indeed a very exciting exercise. After that we attended a Smart Glass presentation by a company from Joburg introducing different types of glasses used fo different needs.
later during the day we were taken to a site for inspection on a project on low cost houses that the company is currently busy with and were given an oppotunity to ask questions, it was a great experience and we learnt a lot.
